In reading, we use the workshop model. The model consists of mini-lessons, independent work time, conferences, and sharing. During this time students will be working in book clubs, small groups, and on independent reading projects throughout the year, therefore they will be reading a variety of novels. These novels are excellent for enhancing vocabulary and higher-level thinking skills through group discussions, writing activities, and projects. Presentations on these book projects will also be assigned throughout the school year. This encourages students to develop their speaking skills, listening skills, and time management skills.
